The HIV/STI Program at OPCA offers one-on-one clinical education and support to Oregon providers, with guidance focused on HIV and STI prevention, screening, and treatment. Our dedicated team of clinical faculty work with providers individually to distill the latest evidence, share practical tools, and offer implementation guidance. Virtual check-ins are brief, offered at no cost, and content is always free of commercial bias.

Dr. Christopher Evans is an internal medicine and geriatrics doctor. He is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. He has an additional certification as an HIV specialist from the Academy of HIV Medicine and has a strong interest in HIV primary care and hepatitis C treatment. Dr. Evans also enjoys teaching medical residents and medical fellows in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Chris Fox is a nurse practitioner and educator who is dedicated to caring for people living with HIV or at risk for infection. He has a passion for training future and current HIV workforce members. He has a practice in HIV care at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and he is the lead clinician for the OHSU Tele-PrEP Program. Fox received his training at the University of California, San Francisco, where he was also faculty in the UCSF School of Nursing’s HIV primary care specialty program. He has previously worked in HIV prevention at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

Lara Strick, MD, MSc

Lara Strick, MD, MSc, is a board-certified Infectious disease physician and primary provider specializing in correctional healthcare, HIV, and viral hepatitis. Dr. Strick believes in patient-centered, nonjudgemental care and providing the most current information to allow patients to make informed decisions. She is a strong advocate for patient rights within the criminal legal system. Dr. Strick’s clinical expertise includes the care of people living with HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C, the provision of PrEP, the treatment of sexually transmitted infections, and the care and coordination needed for people released from a carceral facility.

John Nusser, MD, MS, FAAFP

John Nusser is a family physician who has worked as a faculty physician at Family Medicine of Southwest Washington in Vancouver, WA since 2005. He received his MS and MD at the University of Washington in 2000, finished residency in 2003, and was board-certified in addiction care in 2023. He leads the HIV care and HIV area of concentration at the residency.
He sees patients in the clinic, in the hospital, and at permanent supportive housing facilities. As Mountain West AIDS Education Training Center faculty, he talks on STIs, HIV, and treatment for substance use disorder.

C. Milano, MD

Dr. Milano is an associate professor of Family Medicine in the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Medicine, and Medical Director of the OHSU Transgender Health Program. Dr. Milano cares for patients as a primary care provider at OHSU Richmond Clinic, a federally qualified health center, and staffs OHSU’s Virtual Transgender Health Program Consult Clinic, a novel program that supports patients and primary care providers throughout Oregon in accessing hormone therapy and gender affirming care. Originally hailing from San Francisco, Dr. Milano received a medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco, and went on to complete a residency and clinical leadership fellowship with OHSU’s Department of Family Medicine, and has been training regional and national audiences on the subject of gender-affirming care for over a decade.
